UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer vowed Monday his Labour government would rebuild ties with Europe in a key speech aimed at resetting his leadership after disastrous local elections.
“This Labour government will be defined by rebuilding our relationship with Europe, by putting Britain at the heart of Europe,” he said.
He announced that he would introduce legislation to nationalize Chinese-owned British Steel, after the government took control of the company last year. “Legislation will be brought forward this week to give the government powers… to take full national ownership of British Steel.”
“I know that people are frustrated by the state of Britain, frustrated by politics and some people frustrated with me,” he said, adding, “I know I have my doubters, and I know I need to prove them wrong, and I will.” (AFP)
