Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday denounced the recent US strikes on Tehran, calling them an “unjustified and unprovoked act of aggression.”
Speaking during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow, Putin stated that “Russia is committed to supporting the Iranian people.”
While refraining from naming the United States as the perpetrator, the Russian leader condemned the attacks on Iran. The Kremlin had earlier on Monday expressed regret and condemnation over the US strikes over Iranian nuclear facilities.

Putin also offered to mediate between Iran and Israel, a proposal rejected by US President Donald Trump last week.
“Russia is making efforts to assist the Iranian people,” Putin reiterated.

On his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi praised Russia as a “partner and ally of Tehran,” highlighting the close and longstanding ties between the two nations. He emphasized that Iran was exercising its legitimate right to self defense in response to the hostilities.
Putin and other Russian officials also clarified that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed with Tehran months ago did not constitute a mutual defense pact.
