Russia, Ukraine Trade Accusations of Ceasefire Violations

Ukraine and Russia traded accusations of launching attacks against civilians on Sunday, the second day of a three-day ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump.

Trump had announced the three-day ceasefire between the two countries on Friday, beginning Saturday, expressing hope that it would lead to an agreement to end the war.

Russia has been conducting assault operations on the Ukrainian front line in breach of a three-day ceasefire, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

“The Russians are continuing assault activity in sectors key for them,” Zelensky said in his evening address, adding, “On the front line, the Russian army is not complying with the ceasefire and is not even really trying to.”

Despite a decrease in the pace of airstrikes, both sides reported civilian casualties. Russian strikes in eastern Ukraine wounded at least nine people, while Ukrainian strikes on the Belgorod border region in Russia injured four, according to officials on both sides. Russian drone strikes in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region also injured a three-year-old girl and a rescue worker. (AFP)
