Russia Strikes Kyiv as Truce Expires

President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that Russia had launched more than 200 long-range drones at Ukraine overnight, after a three-day halt in fighting brokered by the United States ended.

Kyiv came under drone attacks as the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire ended on Tuesday. “Enemy UAVs are currently over Kyiv. Please stay safe until the alert is cleared,” the head of the capital’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, posted on Telegram.

The alert siren was the first confirmed in the capital since Friday, before the ceasefire came into force. Kyiv’s regional military administration told residents to remain in shelters and said its air defenses could be operating in the area.

The two countries had traded accusations of attacks on civilians that violated the truce announced by US President Donald Trump.

The Kremlin said on Tuesday it was too early to talk about “specifics” of ending the war in Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin said the conflict was “heading to an end”.

“The accumulated groundwork in terms of the peace process allows us to say that the end is drawing near. But in this context, it is not possible at the moment to speak about any specifics,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing. AFP
