Russia said on Thursday that Moscow’s recent weapons tests do not constitute nuclear weapons tests restricted by international treaties.
The Russian remarks came after US President Donald Trump ordered the resumption of nuclear weapons testing, and just days after President Vladimir Putin announced the testing of a nuclear-capable maritime drone and a nuclear-powered cruise missile.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “If [Trump] in some way refers to the Burevestnik tests as a nuclear test carried out by another country, that is in no way accurate. All nations continue to advance the development of their defense systems, but this does not constitute a nuclear test.”
