Well-informed sources have disclosed that the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered a major purge across top-level positions in military and civilian institutions. The move comes in the wake of recent Israeli strikes that unearthed unprecedented security breaches within the regime.

According to information obtained by Eagle Intelligence Reports, Khamenei has asked a group of his trusted aides to conduct a comprehensive overhaul of senior leadership roles, especially those possessing clearance to access highly sensitive military and security intelligence. Amid heightened alert levels across Iran’s state apparatus, the move aims to curb possibility of future information leaks.

This directive comes at a time when tensions are rising among internal power centers over the pressing issue of succession in the regime. Rival factions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and key political figures are clashing over who will succeed the aging Supreme Leader. Reports suggest the Supreme Leader has been facing serious issues with his health, which has worsened of late. Psychological pressures of the war with Israel along with the recent US strikes on key nuclear facilities are taking their toll on Khamenei’s health.

“The Revolutionary Guard lacks a unified command structure, with commanders in Khamenei’s orbit enjoying direct access to his office. This disparity has fueled intense rivalries within the regime’s most powerful military institution.”

Sources confirm that Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader’s son and a likely successor, stands to benefit most from the campaign. His unique position shields him from scrutiny, allowing him to quietly sideline potential rivals without raising suspicions.

Sources add the issue of succession is being seriously deliberated since the outbreak of the recent conflict to ensure the regime’s survival amid rapidly changing circumstances. There is growing fear that a power vacuum could spark broader chaos, especially if power struggle intensifies between the hardliner conservative camp and figures affiliated with the moderate reformists.

Under Iran’s constitution, the task of appointing the next Supreme Leader falls on the Assembly of Experts, a clerical body of 88 members elected by popular vote every eight years. The body selects the next Supreme Leader by a majority vote. However, various entities such as the Revolutionary Guard, the Supreme Leader’s inner circle, and powerful religious and security bodies jockey behind the scenes to influence the selection process.

Many clerics in the Assembly of Experts attain their posts with the support of institutions aligned with the Supreme Leader. While formally elected, the body lacks true independence as the regime maintains effective control.

The death of former President Ebrahim Raisi, who was widely viewed as one of the top contenders to succeed Khamenei, along with the recent killings of key military commanders, has cleared the political landscape for Mojtaba Khamenei’s potential rise. Yet, sources warn, the absence of an influential figure could pave the way for growing instability.
