EU Chief Says ‘Firmly’ Behind Member States After Drone Attack on UK Cyprus Base

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen on Monday said the bloc was solidly behind member states after an Iranian drone crashed into a British base on Cyprus.

“While the Republic of Cyprus was not the target, let me be clear: we stand collectively, firmly and unequivocally with our Member States in the face of any threat,” she said.

British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper said an unmanned drone that struck a UK military base on Cyprus hit the runaway.

“This is an unmanned drone strike specifically on the airport runway… we’re not able to provide further information and detail at this point, but obviously all of the precautionary measures are being taken around the base,” Cooper told Sky News. (AFP)
