China has stressed that its policy towards Japan will remain unchanged despite the outcome of Sunday’s election, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s coalition won a decisive victory, allowing her government to implement promised tax cuts and increased military spending.
At a routine press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian urged Japan’s prime minister to withdraw her remarks on Taiwan. He warned that any reckless actions would receive a “resolute response” from China, highlighting Beijing’s sensitivity over Taiwan and its determination to safeguard what it considers its territorial claims.
